Winter Food for Thought 2025
- Your impact is also felt in every scratch-made meal delivered to a senior’s doorstep. Our kitchen team introduced new, nostalgic favorites last summer—comforting dishes like Beef Pot Roast served with mashed potatoes and green beans. For many of our clients, these meals spark cherished memories and provide a bit of joy on days that might otherwise feel lonely.
- Senior Spotlight: Meet Joel! Joel knows what it’s like to work hard — and what it’s like to need a little help. After a career in security was cut short by a back injury, Joel found himself living on Social Security. Shoulder pain, a knee replacement, a broken back, and a detached retina (involving 6 surgeries) have taken a toll. “When you are in your 60s, who is going to hire you? Especially when you are limping around and can’t see great,” adds Joel.
- We’re now bringing in more raw ingredients, developing our own recipes, and preparing meals in-house with greater skill and efficiency. This approach not only improves flavor and quality for the seniors we serve — it also helps us keep costs manageable. This summer, MOWWM brought more “home-cooked comfort food favorites” to the plates of local seniors. Our culinary team, led by Registered Dietitian Paula Kerr and Executive Chef Frank Morales, has been working hard to create new meals that taste like home while meeting the nutritional needs of older adults.
- After retiring from a career in education, Holly was looking for a new way to give back when a friend told her about volunteering at the Meals on Wheels Western Michigan Senior Pantry. Holly is continually amazed by the number of seniors served and the community effort that makes it possible. “It’s impressive how organized and caring everyone is. It really feels like a community taking care of each other.”
- MillerKnoll: A Day of Purpose, a Year of Impact—Since 2020, MillerKnoll has been a dedicated partner to MOWWM, bringing incredible energy and compassion to our mission. Their involvement began when Program Manager, Rita Blackmar, chose MOWWM for the company’s first Day of Purpose, a global day of volunteering and civic engagement. What started as Rita delivering meals during the pandemic has grown into a meaningful, long-term partnership
