At Meals on Wheels Western Michigan, we’re on a mission to provide quality nutrition services in a supportive environment to promote the health and independence of older adults. Our impact is undeniable. From home-delivered meals, to our senior pantries and dining sites, we are there when seniors need us. We have an amazing staff, but we simply could not do this important work without volunteers. No matter what you do when you volunteer, you are an essential piece to supporting our vision to create a community where no senior is hungry or forgotten.
Whether you can volunteer for a few hours or on a more regular basis, we welcome your service. Sign up to volunteer today. Together, we can make a difference to a senior in need.
Listed below you will find many of the opportunities we currently offer. We welcome any additional ideas you may have to show your support and give back to the seniors of Kent County and Allegan County.
“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”
– Anne Frank
Have the opportunity to deliver meals directly to our homebound seniors throughout Kent County! Drivers use their own vehicles. Must be 18 years of age or older. Opportunity is available M, W, and F with routes delivered between 8am and 1pm.
Emergency Box Assembly
Starting in October, emergency boxes are assembled with shelf stable items. These boxes are delivered prior to the winter season to be used by our homebound clients in the event inclement weather prevents the delivery of their meals.
Decorate our brown bags used for meal delivery to brighten up a senior’s day! This is a great opportunity for children and student groups and can be completed off-site at your leisure.
Help with the preparation and packaging of our meals. With a production of over 2,500 meals per day, this is always a great way to help! Opportunity is available M-F, 8am to 2pm and hours are flexible.
Assist with restocking pantry shelves, packing of groceries for clients, and repackaging and sorting food items at our northeast Grand Rapids senior food pantry. This opportunity is available M, W, and Th from 8am to 3pm.
Provide office support by performing various clerical duties such as making copies, filing, basic data entry, and making phone calls. Opportunity available M-F during regular office hours.
We have special events scheduled throughout the year and are always in need of extra help to ensure they are a great success!
Independent Food Drives
Food drives can be done at any business, church, school or organization at any time of the year. Food collected goes directly to our senior pantry clients.
Any other creative ideas you may have are always welcome!
Adopt a Route
Consider “Adopting a Route” as a group. Groups designate a coordinator to organize a group of volunteers to take a complete route every M, W, & F. Arrangements can be made to have meals dropped at a desired site. Great opportunity for churches, businesses, and clubs to have a minimal commitment that makes a BIG impact!
