Our Home Delivered Meals Program is designed to be a convenient way for seniors like Linda, to get nutritious, delicious, made-from-scratch, meals to help them continue living independently.
Meet Linda Taylor
Linda is a part of our Home Delivered Meals Program but her story is bigger than just the meals she enjoys.
Her life is a story of resilience, gratitude, and the importance of community, including all of you that have helped make it possible for her to enjoy our Home Delivered Meals Program.
At 72 years old, Linda has experienced many challenges, including the loss of her vision at the age of 14. Born prematurely, she suffered detached retinas due to excessive oxygen in her incubator, which left her with partial vision until her early teenage years.

A Small Gesture That Makes a Big Impact
Reflecting on her limited sight, Linda shared, “I’m just grateful for what I saw, while I saw, and that I have
a point of reference.” Before dedicating her life to raising her two sons, Linda worked in the darkroom at
Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. Despite the challenges of blindness, Linda’s determination remained strong.
One of the highlights of Linda’s week is the visit from her MOWWM Home Delivered Meal driver, Dale. “He takes the time to check on me and to notice things around the house that I can’t see. He doesn’t know how much I appreciate that.”
Our delivery drivers go the extra mile to make sure our seniors are doing ok and have what they need. Just recently, one of our seniors needed a can opener and our driver brought one back for them. It’s more than just a meal for Meals On Wheels Western Michigan. When we deliver to seniors in our community, it is a friendly face, a conversation, and a part of the day that we look forward to as much as they do. We are building connections in our community and bringing a smile with every meal that gets delivered. We’re happy to have Linda on our route.
Convenience & Ease of Home Delivered Meals Program
Linda has lived by herself with her cat, Jordie, since her husband passed in 2013. Due to the generosity of MOWWM donors and supporters, Linda has been receiving Home Delivered Meals Program for the past five years, a service she describes as life-saving. Linda is enthusiastic about the convenience and ease the meals provide her, sharing that her personal favorites are Ginger Soy Fish and the Broccoli and Beef. “I never get bored, I love the seasonal menus,” Linda said.
Our program give you a nutritional meal that’s easy to make and so delicious. We offer a Choice Menu, that includes favorites like Meatloaf, Pulled Pork, and Salmon, so there’s something for everyone. If someone has difficulties chewing or swallowing, we have a menu that offers smaller cuts of food (minced), and even finer, a puréed menu with the same tasty outcome.
A Powerful Message
Linda’s message to those considering supporting MOWWM is simple and powerful: “Go for it. You are making yourself a huge blessing to others. And what better way to bless yourself than to be a blessing to your community?” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves! Thank you for being a blessing to Linda and your community.
