UPS is no stranger to Meals on Wheels Western Michigan. They have diligently worked by our side for several holidays.
Around every holiday, we face a more difficult demand in delivering meals to seniors. When heading out for our normal routes on the Friday before a holiday, we also have to be sure to deliver the meals that are expected on Monday. This means delivering TWICE as many meals. Though, we have a phenomenal team, we usually need extra help over holiday weekends. UPS has been a great support during this time. They come in to donate their time, energy, and vehicles to help in the delivery process.
This past Fourth of July, UPS partnered with us to assist in delivering more than 7,700 meals! Five members of UPS came in to work a total of 16.5 labor hours, basically each person worked a 9:30am to 2pm shift. Dave, our Delivery and Distribution Manager, says that UPS’ assistance is crucial during the holidays, “If they didn’t help, the operation would be much more difficult – more stressful, harder to coordinate, and it would mean poor service for our clients.”
This partnership with UPS has not only helped take a load off of our production staff, but it has allowed seniors to be provided with the quality meals they need, whatever the holiday, seniors are always provided with the nutrition that enables they to remain in their homes.
