Volunteer of the Month: Kirk Henry

Kirk has been a loyal volunteer at our Mt. Mercy dining site on Bridge St. serving seniors for over a year now! Also a resident at Mt. Mercy, Kirk helps with basically everything that is needed. Stacey PreFontaine, the site supervisor, calls him her “right hand kitchen dude.” Kirk does everything from washing dishes, helping with set up in the morning, with food prep in the kitchen and even comes in at night or on the weekend to mop the floors in the kitchen and the cafeteria. “He’s the first one down, and the last one to leave, 5 days a week. He is always watching and ready to fill in and perform any task that is needed, he is an all-around major helper!” Says Stacey.

Kirk speaks highly of Stacey as well, saying that she is great site supervisor, and the best he has ever worked with. Before retiring, Kirk worked as a flexographic operator at H&H plastics in Grand Rapids. He is also an avid fisherman and owns a cottage by Big Rapids where his family visits often and where they often bass fish as well. Locally, he goes fishing for bass in the Grand River when he gets a chance to. Kirk is an all-around animal lover. He’s had his dog, Diesel, a miniature greyhound, for a few years now and has had many other dogs as pets in the past and is a self-proclaimed dog lover.

Kirk enjoys volunteering in the Mt. Mercy cafeteria simply because he likes to help and do what he can to contribute. He loves everything about the cafeteria at Mt. Mercy, but he says the best part for him is, “being with the girls in the kitchen, they are good company for me.” And of course, the volunteers in the kitchen enjoy his company as well.

We are so thankful for Kirk’s commitment to our program and so grateful to have him as a part of our team. We appreciate him, and others like him who give so generously of their time to reach homebound seniors in our community.  Thank you, Kirk!
