The Long-Term Effect

Last week one of our staff members spoke to a woman named Pearline. Pearline is not a Meals on Wheels client, however her brother, JB, was. JB used to receive puree meals. Sadly, he passed away last August.

What could have ended as a sad story, was surprisingly happy. Pearline went on to say, “I don’t know if you know this, but when the man brought the meals, he didn’t just drop off food. He had a conversation with him(JB). He took five minutes to talk with JB and JB loved it. I don’t know if you are aware of what that meant to him(JB).” She went on to say that her brother loved our puree meals and looked forward to them, but more than that he loved the conversations he had with his driver.

Meals on Wheels provides much more than a meal. It provides companionship, social interaction, and a much need safety-check. This story is a reminder of the everlasting impact our drivers have on the lives of those we serve. We are fortunate that we can provide this service. May JB rest in peace.
